What is Americano?
An espresso coffee diluted with hot water to try to imitate the characteristics of a filter coffee, which is how coffee is typically prepared in the US.
Its origins lie in the Second World War, when American soldiers stationed in Europe used to dilute espresso coffee with hot water in order to try and make it more like the type of coffee they were used to drinking.
